Angel Zebra
The Angelfish Pterophyllum scalare is a graceful disk shaped cichlid. Though it was named for the marine angelfish, it bears little resemblance to these fish or even to any other fish in the Cichlid family. This fish is rather diamond shaped or leaf-like in appearance. It has a rounded body that is greatly compressed laterally accented with long, triangular dorsal and anal fins. Its genus name Pterophyllum is very descriptive of its appearance as this term actually means “winged leaf”. It is also known as the Silver Angelfish, Freshwater Angelfish, and Common Angelfish.
These are some of the most attractive fish and very popular with both the beginner and the long-time aquarists. In the wild they are found with black bars on a silver colored body. But there are also some mutations found in nature as well where these fish are without bars, are solid black, and have lace forms.
Through captive inbreeding its natural mutant forms have become fixed forms for the hobbyist. Angelfish are mostly all captive bred and there are many color and finage varieties available. Some of the best known varieties include the Silver Angelfish, Zebra Angelfish, Marbled Angelfish, Veiltail Angelfish, Blushing Angelfish, and one produced with much effort, the Gold Angelfish.
These are moderately sized cichlids that are very tall and extend to about 6 inches (15 cm) in length. The Veil varieties can be even taller due to their fins. They are moderate to care for but they do need enough room to accommodate their size and swim freely. A 30 gallon tank would be the suggested minimum, but if you are keeping a pair or keeping them in a community, the tank will need to be larger.
The Angelfish are considered a community fish, but they are cichlids. Consequently they may not be as sociable with smaller fish. They will school peacefully when they are young but tend to pair off and become more territorial when they are older. Being a bit timid, they can be frightened by shadows and fast movements. They will feel most at home and comfortable in a warmer aquarium that has hardy plants placed around the inside perimeter, has some rocks and roots for retreat, and has an open area in the center for swimming.
- Zebra Angelfish: This is a Silver variety with extra vertical black stripes.

Corydoras – Skunk Cory
The Skunk Cory
Whatever name you call them, the Corydoras arcuatus is a peaceful, interesting, active, shoaling species that prefers living among other Corys of their own size.
The Skunk Cory Cat is a popular community tank species that can be identified by the black stripe that runs over their eyes, down their back to just before the tail where it splits and trails down to color the lower edge of the caudal fin. In most other Cory species, the black stripe does not split but continues along the upper edge of the caudal fin. They have stiffened pectoral fin spines that are capable of piercing human skin and causing a painful “sting” from their mildly toxic secretions that are produced by the axillary glands at the base of each spine. Exercise care when handling these Corys.
Skunk Corys are peaceful bottom dweller that get along well with other like sized fish, especially when kept in small schools of 6 to 8 specimens. They are efficient cleaners of excess food from the aquarium substrate.
The Skunk or Sands’ Cory appreciates stronger water currents than other members of the Corydoras genus. They will thrive in a densely planted aquarium with a sandy substrate surrounded by Java Moss, Java Fern and driftwood areas for them to hide.
Like other Corydoras, this species will spawn eggs on either the aquariums glass, driftwood, or among the plants. Female Skunk Corys are noticeably wider and broader than males when viewed from above; especially when full of eggs.
Skunk Corys are omnivores and should be fed a mixed diet of good quality flake food, shrimp pellets, tubifex, and other freeze dried or frozen foods.
Fire Parrot Cichlid Juvenile
Common Names: Blood Parrot Cichlid, Red Blood Parrot, Red Parrot Cichlid, Red Parrot Fish, Parrot Fish.
The Blood Parrot Cichlid is a hybrid fish that was first created in Taiwan in the mid to late 1980’s. Its parentage has been highly disputed, but the most commonly speculated pairings are Midas Cichlid (Amphilophus Citrinellus) with the Redhead Cichlid (Paratheraps Synspilum). One of the more wild theories is the Severum (Heros Severus) with the Red Devil Cichlid (Amphilophus Labiatus). Blood Parrots have a round body, a beak shaped head with an upside down triangle mouth. They are often seen in bright orange in coloration, but seen in other colors such as red, yellow, brown, and tan. Other colors have been produced such as green, blue, and purple by dyeing the fish, which shortens life expectancy.
Tank Size Required
30 Gallons Minimum A good rule of thumb is 30 gallon for one and 10 more gallons for each additional Blood Parrot. As with any fish, the bigger the tank the better.
Size and Growth
6 – 9″ (15 – 24cm) Blood Parrots grow slow when compared to other Central American Cichlids or Flowerhorn. Once they hit 4-5″ their growth slows further. They typically can live anywhere from 5 – 15 years depending on the care given to them and other genetic factors. When Blood Parrots are small they may show a tan/brown body color with black spots near the tail. These are simply juveniles that should change to orange/yellow as they grow.
Water Conditions
Temperature: 76 – 86F (24 – 30C) pH: 6.0 – 8.5
Feeding
Blood Parrots enjoy pelleted foods with occasional Blood Worm and Shrimp treats. A smaller pellet size should be used due to their mouths. If the Parrot has trouble feeding from the surface then it is recommended to switch to a sinking pellet. Thawed shelled peas should be fed once a week to add roughage to the diet to help prevent Swim Bladder problems.
Social Behavior
Blood Parrots, especially when young, can be very shy and reclusive. Its typical for them to hide when you first bring them home to hide and/or be very skittish and can take a few weeks for them to adjust to their new surroundings. Some ways for you to help them adjust is to make sure they have several hiding spots and adding some dither fish. Removing hiding spots will only make them more shy and could take longer for them to adjust. Blood Parrots like all Central American Cichlids are territorial and not typically suitable for small community fish. If it fits in their mouth or close then they will try to eat it. Given the proper tank Blood Parrots typically get along fine with most Central and Southern American Cichlids although large overly aggressive cichlids should be avoided as tankmates or house with caution.

Green Corydoras
The Emerald Green Cory adds interest and beauty to the lower regions of your aquarium. This popular aquarium scavenger has an iridescent, emerald green body with pinkish underparts. In addition to an ornamental presence, the Emerald Green Cory Cat provides the valuable service of devouring uneaten food on the aquarium bottom.
Also known as the Green Catfish or Emerald Brochis, the Emerald Green Cory Cat comes from the regions of South America in the Amazon River basin. It inhabits waters with high vegetation and neutral pH.
A minimum aquarium size of 30 gallons is recommend for the Emerald Green Cory. To replicate the natural habitat of this catfish, the aquarium should be well planted with plenty of driftwood. Maintain a pH close to neutral and provide strong filtration to ensure proper health.
In the aquarium, females will collect the eggs in a pelvic fin basket and deposit them individually on plants, rocks, driftwood, and other objects. Pairs have been known to produce 900 to 1,100 eggs.
The Emerald Green Cory Cat will eat food that has settled to the bottom of the aquarium. However, supplemental foods such as bloodworms, tubifex, flake food, or sinking carnivore pellets should be offered to ensure proper nutrition.

Long Fin Albino Cory 2-3cm
Tropical fish
The Long Fin Albino Cory are quite hardy and adaptable, very peaceful, and they help keep the bottom of the aquarium clean by eating up leftover foods
They are very suited for a small aquarium. The Albino Cory is a small member of the Callichthyidae family of catfish, with a full grown adult only growing up to 2.5 inches (7 cm).
Though the Albino Cory are not often bred in home aquariums, they will breed rather easily and it is very interesting! The female will drop a few eggs and catch them with her ventral fins, carrying them about to deposit them here and there about the plants and decor in the aquarium.
The Albino Cory is a pseudo-albino variety that has been developed in the hobby trade from the darker-bodied Paleatus
